A Dose of Halloween Sugar

There were so many fun things at the Halloween party last night. There were probably 20 kids there and they divided them up into groups. They had stations which each group rotated through (what organized people!) There was a maze in the barn, bobbing for apples, cookie decorating, and I'm not even sure what else because I was eating homemade chili in the living room with all the other adults. I'm so glad we went to this party because my kids had Plenty of Halloween fun but I don't have to deal with bags of Halloween candy for days afterwards! Here is Sam eating his Halloween sugar-- his decorated cookie. They also got caramel popcorn and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and apples-- plenty of treats without being excessive. (Plus I made the pumpkin cookies with honey and carob chips and Eve made the sugar cookies with whole wheat flour! Don't tell the kids!) This is the second year we've gone to this party and I hope to make it our new family tradition. I'd rather the kids grow up thinking this is Halloween rather than trick-or-treating.

Our Halloween tradition is to go trick or treating early, and then go back to my Mom's house and hand out the candy to the other trick or treat'ers. (I bring other, healthier, treats for them to enjoy back at the house, and have a "Great Pumpkin" leave some treats in their trick or treat buckets that night. lol) The kids have an absolute blast, and we're not out freezing ourselves all night. It was 29 degrees last night while we were out!!! Yikes!
