Jared and Ellie Again

Sometimes Jared feels like Ellie doesnt' like him very much-- she pushes him away and cries and wants me, and sometimes it makes Jared feel bad. Just now he picked her up and she went nuts with joy, so I recorded the moment. If I have enough of these pictures documented perhaps Jared's confidence with babies will grow a little bit.

Plus, I think my husband is cute and my little girl is adorable. Posted by Picasa

Adults are really keyed in to how others respond to them. You intuitively know if the person you're talking to is uncomfortable, or unsure. It makes you uneasy, wondering what's going on. However, when you're talking with sommeone confident and happy, it's so easy to be that way yourself. Babies are a hundred times more tuned into all of our non-verbal cues, because they're still learning to communicate, still trying to figure out the world. When babies are faced with an adult who is ambivalent or worried, they want reassurance . . . and that usually means mom. ;o) If Jared could just be happy and confident and calm . . . in essence, acting as though he takes for granted that Ellie is just thrilled to see him . . . she'll start to respond that way. Be overjoyed to see a baby, and they're overjoyed to see you. I've noticed that if I straight off compliment a baby I've just met in a tremendously thrilled tone, and light up with a smile, they do the same. If I just look at them, and say "Hey you . . . what do you think of me?" in a so-so adult voice, they're cry as often as not.

Just my .02 on babies. (Oh, how I love them! I just wish I had all this experience and baby love BEFORE I had my first . . . [sigh])

Cute daddy/daughter pics! I am so surprised she pushes Jared away! My mom, sister, and I were all just saying how Ellie is so friendly. She really has a shining personality. I bet he's just catching her at a bad moment because you can tell she adores him.
I love, love, love the costume you are working on. It's darling! Jacob wants me to make him a knight costume. Since I haven't been to your sewing class, that scares me to death, lol!
Sam's drawing is so precious, I am glad you share things like that. I just love his work.
